Whupzzz! We are already a few weeks into the New Year 💃. Glad you made it!
We know you’ve made some personal plans but how do you intend to scale your business and win big this year?
Remember how, for instance, procrastination got in your way last year. You remember the books you wanted to read, the trainings you only signed up for with your mouth, the chat with a client or, even worse, the brilliant fresh idea you “slept over” till you found someone else already implementing…
This year, you must break free from habits that would not help you grow and embrace new and positive ones that would aid your progress.
Here are some healthy habits you should adopt this year to fulfil your potentials and guarantee long-term success:
Set SMART goals
Goal setting is never overrated! You should set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) goals for your business regularly. They could be daily, weekly, or monthly. Committing your goals to writing also makes them feel real and help you easily evaluate how far you’ve fared on your journey. Also, break long term goals into short term goals and quick tasks to make the vision clearer and easier to achieve.
Manage your time better
Do you spend precious time aimlessly surfing the internet or binge watching TV series? Then, you might need to be wary of time wasters and repurpose such time for more productive activities.
You can grow your business by partnering with other brands and individuals. Collaboration helps to complement your efforts, generate and exchange strategic ideas, solve complex problems, increase efficiency and effectiveness, and get your projects done on time. You should collaborate online and offline.
Journal your thoughts and progress
Journaling is one of the best habits to have, in life and business. It drives you to think about and hone your desires in business. Your journal can be in hard cover notes or in apps like Evernote. Whatever your preference, you’ll enjoy the privacy and limitless opportunity to express your thoughts, feelings, aspirations, special events, and any other thing that interests you.
It’s easy to worry about insufficient funds, lack of sales, lack of support system, among others. The fact is: life can be unprecedented, hence the need to stay positive in business. Always look on the bright side. Focus on moving forward. No matter the situation, you have to find a silver lining.
Follow a budget
Benjamin Franklin once said, “Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship.” It is important to have and follow a budget in business. You can have the budget in bits – daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or any other ways that work for you. Be sure to have sufficient cash flow to commit to essentials like online and offline advertising, sales, taxes, and so on.
Consult a mentor
Experience is the best teacher, they say. However, this experience can be garnered from others, instead of going through it personally. Get a mentor—someone who is more experienced in your field—and maintain a distant or close relationship by subscribing to their trainings, books, following their recommended resources and so on. A mentor can offer invaluable insight into the world of commerce beyond your thoughts and guide during critical decision-making times.
Improve your skills
Learn new crafts or skills and strive to be better in the ones you already have. You should also be open to exploring knowledge outside your line of work. Check out free or affordable courses on Udemy, LinkedIn Learning and Coursera to start. Even if you only spend 20 minutes daily to learn a new skill, it can contribute to improving your business over time. Be proactive!
